摘要:We discuss the dependence of the critical properties of the Anderson model on the dimension d in the language of /3-function and renormalization group recently introduced in Vanoni et al. [C. Vanoni et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 121, e2401955121 (2024)] in the context of Anderson transition on random regular graphs. We show how in the delocalized region, including the transition point, the one-parameter scaling part of the /3-function for the fractal dimension D1 evolves smoothly from ...

摘要:Schistosomes are parasitic flatworms that infect more than 200 million people globally. However, there is a shortage of molecular tools that enable the discovery of potential drug targets within schistosomes. Thus, praziquantel has remained the frontline treatment for schistosomiasis despite known liabilities. Here, we have conducted a genome- wide study in Schistosoma mansoni using the human druggable genome as a bioinformatic template to identify essential genes within schistosomes bearing s...

摘要:AI is now a cornerstone of modern dataset analysis. In many real world applications, practitioners are concerned with controlling specific kinds of errors, rather than minimizing the overall number of errors. For example, biomedical screening assays may primarily be concerned with mitigating the number of false positives rather than false negatives. Quantifying uncertainty in AI-based predictions, and in particular those controlling specific kinds of errors, remains theoretically and practical...

摘要:Carbon sequestration through plant biomass responses to global warming plays a vital role in mitigating climate change, but recent evidence suggests that this effect diminishes in the long term. To investigate the effect of warming duration on plant biomass responses, we analyzed a global dataset of 2,291 paired observations, revealing that warming increased overall aboveground plant biomass by 9.4% and belowground biomass by 2.6%. However, as the warming duration increased, the positive plant...

摘要:Genetic investigation in Mendelian skin disorders featuring generalized or localized skin scaling and redness, known as the ichthyoses, has revealed novel pathways relevant to epidermal integrity, barrier function, and desquamation. Here, we show that a recurrent de novo missense variant in EMP2 (epithelial membrane protein 2), which encodes a cell surface tetraspan protein in the growth- arrest specific 3 (GAS3)/peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22) family, is associated with a Mendelian skin ...

摘要:Cancer is the origin of a novel tissue that attracts resources, spreads beyond boundaries, avoids normal controls, and escapes immunity. How does a novel tissue arise? The puzzle is that two seemingly different processes appear to be the primary driving force. On the one hand, overwhelming evidence links (epi)genetic driver mutations to the origin and progression of tumors. Common oncogenic mutations such as KRAS accelerate cell division, and common knockouts of tumor suppressors such as TP53 ...
