摘要:This essay initiates a stock taking conversation with the Administrative Science Quarterly's broad community of scholars-its editors, editorial board members, reviewers, authors, submitters, and readers-about the criteria that organization studies scholars use in evaluating one another's work. I review ASQ's founding editors' vision for the field of organization studies, as articulated in essays by Edward Litchfield and James Thompson that appeared in the first issue of the journal in 1956. 摘要:This research explores the impact of process management activities on technological innovation. Drawing on research in organizational evolution and learning, we suggest that as these practices reduce variance in organzational routines and influence the selection of innovations, they enhance incremental innovation at the expense of exploratory innovation. We tested our hypotheses in a 20-year longitudinal study of patenting activity and ISO 9000 quality program certifications in the paint and p...

Managers evaluated scenarios that depicted decision-making processes at micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis: alleged cognitive biases of individuals, strategies of structuring and coping with accountability relatio...

摘要:This study investigates how top management teams in higher education institutions make sense of important issues that affect strategic change in modern academia. We used a two-phase research approach that progressed from a grounded model anchored in a case study to a quantitative, generalizable study of the issue interpretation process, using 611 executives from 372 colleges and universities in the United States. The findings suggest that under conditions of change, top management team members...

摘要:We examine the decision process of a public policy task force that plays a role in establishing financial reporting standards to determine what affects the kinds of decisions made. The task force is charged with resolving emerging problems in the design of rules that govern the reporting of information provided to the public by firms that sell securities in U.S. markets. Drawing on traditions of garbage can and institutional theory, we model this decision process as an organized anarchy embedd...
