摘要:Although millions of employees traverse public space every day on their way to work, this public transition space has been overlooked in much of the management literature, even as public harassment that occurs in this space has increased in prevalence. We delineate the transition space between non-work and workspaces as a construct, building on theories related to work non-work borders, role transitions, and organizational space to explain how transition space harassment negatively impacts wor...

摘要:How and why do executives originate high-quality ideas for their firms' responses to major, unprecedented, exogenous shocks? I develop a novel, emergence-based theory of idea origination (TIO) by executives in the context of such shocks. By considering the top management team (TMT) as a complex system, I suggest that executives may arrive at high-quality shock-response ideas due to the (mitigating or reinforcing) workings of dynamic, situation-specific, interrelated constructs located at the i...

摘要:Resilience research has extensively addressed how organizations cope with disruptive events and their immediate impact. The focus of this research has been on how organizations bounce back to a pre-disruption state. However, organizations are also challenged to bounce forward toward unprecedented and uncertain futures in the wake of disruptive events without losing sight of their pasts. In this article, we develop a trajectory model of organizational resilience that focuses on how actors proje...

摘要:Pervasive employee mobility between organizations generates an abundance of alumni for firms. Fragmented research streams have shown alumni can create or destroy value after formal employment ends, yet we have scant theory to holistically guide when and how this occurs. We address this shortcoming by building a theory of post-separation value for the firm, suggesting ways value evolves over time and the role organizations play in managing this process. Our theoretical development combines pers...

摘要:Although strategic human resource management research has predominantly focused on internalizing human capital resources for value creation, rising employee mobility has increased the risk and uncertainty of solely focusing on internal resources. One opportunity that organizations are beginning to explore is generating value from alumni-organization relationships (AORs). These relationships can be particularly valuable because they possess hybrid characteristics: a combination of alumni's acce...
