摘要:Anthropogenic destruction and fragmentation of habitat restrict many species to small, isolated populations, which often experience high extirpation risk. Restoring connectivity through translocations is one approach for mitigating the demographic and genetic perils faced by small populations. However, translocation interventions often lack substantial postrelease monitoring, and thus important information including the performance of translocated individuals, the long- term impacts on the rec...

摘要:Many widespread plant taxa of western North America have diversified into phenotypically and genetically divergent lineages due to complex biogeographic histories across heterogeneous landscapes. Mosaic hybrid zones can form when geographically co-occurring, yet environmentally distinct, lineages cross-pollinate and form hybrids that occupy unique environmental niches absent of a geographic cline. This expands the total environmental space across which parental and hybrid individuals grow, res...

摘要:Implementing ecological connectivity conservation in large landscapes requires cutting- edge science combined with consideration of ecological, socioeconomic, and cultural factors that collectively shape the outcomes of conservation efforts. We outline a theory of change (ToC) for connectivity conservation to improve the ecological condition of landscapes and biodiversity and the ecosystem services upon which humans depend. We review connectivity conservation efforts on four continents in larg...

摘要:Members of the tungsten-containing oxidoreductase (WOR) family, which contain a tungstopyranopterin (Tuco) cofactor, are typically either monomeric (WorL) or heterodimeric (WorLS). These enzymes oxidize aldehydes to the corresponding acids while reducing the redox protein ferredoxin. They have been structurally characterized mainly using WORs from hyperthermophilic archaea. The WORs of some bacteria contain three additional subunits of the BfuABC family and these chimeric WorABCSL enzymes cata...

摘要:Infantile hypomyelinating leukodystrophy 19 (HLD19) is a rare genetic disorder where patients exhibit reduced myelin in central nervous system (CNS) white matter tracts and present with varied neurological symptoms. The causative gene TMEM63A encodes a mechanosensitive ion channel whose role in myelination is largely unexplored. Our study shows that TMEM63A is a major regulator of oligodendrocyte (OL)-dependent myelination in the CNS. In mouse and zebrafish, Tmem63a inactivation led to early d...

摘要:Global forests provide key ecosystem services, from climate regulation to biodiversity habitat, but are under increasing pressure from the combined impacts of climate and land use change. Here, we show that forest disturbance due to fire is growing globally, with the most dramatic increases in intact forest landscapes, highlighting an existential threat to remaining high biomass, high biodiversity forests. The global annual area of forest disturbance due to fire for 2023 and 2024 was highest s...

摘要:SHP1 (PTPN6) and SHP2 (PTPN11) are closely related protein- tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), which are autoinhibited until their SH2 domains bind paired tyrosine- phosphorylated immunoreceptor tyrosine- based inhibitory/switch motifs (ITIMs/ITSMs). These PTPs bind overlapping sets of ITIM/ITSM- bearing proteins, suggesting that they might have some redundant functions. By studying T cell-specific single and double knockout mice, we found that SHP1 and SHP2 redundantly restrain na & iuml;ve T cell...
