摘要：Using a unique data set from nationally distributed quality newspapers in Germany, we find evidence for both quantitative and qualitative media slant against foreign firms. A downsizing foreign firm receives almost twice as much attention as a domestic firm, and the tone of media reports is more negative. Media slant is a measure for economic xenophobia directed against foreign owners, which constitutes an obstacle to foreign direct investment. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

摘要：This paper provides new evidence on the effect of elementary and middle school construction projects on home prices, academic achievement, and school enrollment. Combining the staggered implementation of a comprehensive school construction project in a poor urban district with panel data on student test scores and neighborhoods of residence, we find that, by six years after building occupancy, school construction increases reading scores by 0.15 standard deviations relative to the year before ...

摘要：This paper exploits the 2008-09 stamp duty holiday in the United Kingdom to estimate the incidence of a transaction tax on housing. The average reduction in the after-tax sale price is found to be around 900 against the backdrop of an average tax reduction of about 1500 pound. 摘要：We analyze the effects of the introduction of gender quotas in candidate lists on the quality of elected politicians, as measured by the average number of years of education. We consider an Italian law which introduced gender quotas in local elections in 1993, and was abolished in 1995. 摘要：This paper examines the optimal entry policy toward oligopoly in a global economy. We show that free entry results in too much competition for the world, but each country's corrective tax policy, unless internationally coordinated, proves suboptimal because of international policy spillovers. 摘要：Some risky activities are optional, for example motoring. Participation in them is most attractive for good risks, creating a tendency for advantageous selection in the associated insurance market. Taxing insurance consequently yields deadweight gains when type is hidden. Results are strengthened if optimism is present.
