摘要:Two series of Chinese humeri, namely skeletal remains representing the Sui-T''ang dynasties (A.D. 581-8991) and modern Chinese of Hsiu Chiu Shan, south of Hsia Kuan, Nanking, were studied. 15 measurements and indices were taken. Means, S.D., and bilateral correlations were computed and compared with similar determinations of other sets of measurements. There are significant diffs. between means in some cases and none in others. Various conclusions are suggested. For the 11 measurements of size...

摘要:Weights'' measurements of eggs from 2 breeds of ducks were made. A record was kept as to whether or not each egg hatched. The author concludes that the further the wt. of an egg is from the mean wt., the smaller is its chance of hatching. Eggs with wts. outside the range 70-76 g. lose rapidly in hatchability with each gram that their wt. moves farther from the mean. At 67 and 80 g. the loss is approx. 1% per g. and at 62 and 85 g., the loss is 1 2/3% per g., with a total loss of 11% over eggs ...

摘要:A unimodal frequency distribution f(x), of x is assumed. It is shown that to a given probability a, the range y, from x to x+y, is shortest when j(x) = f(x + y). This property is generalized to a quasi-multiple frequency distribution. This property is employed to secure estimate parameters for parent populations from samples drawn from the populations.

摘要:Denote by x 1, . . . , xn a random sample of n observations arranged in ascending order of magnitude and drawn from a normal population with standard deviation o. The range, or spread, in the sample is Xn[long dash]X1 and may be expressed in units of the standard deviation by the ratio [image] Let a 2d independent sample X1 . . . , xv+1 be drawn from the same population. [image] Tables are given which enable one to obtain the probability integral of q and the lower and upper percentage points ...

摘要:This is the last part of the article on medical statistics, which discusses the works on this subject of men connected with the medical profession before 1838. The works of the Heberdens, Short, Deparcieux, Struyck, Sissmilch, Hawkins and Farr are described in detail. These men were interested in the ratio of births to deaths, a statistical measure of health, life tables, vital statistics, enumerations of populations, sex ratio, mortality of small and large towns, causes of deaths, effect of v...

摘要:In entomological field experiments the variance of the number of insects per plot may be a quadratic function of the mean number of insects, i.e.: o2 = M + kM 2. In such cases the transformation x'' = k-1/3 sinh-1 (kx)1/2, where x is the number of insects, tends to bring the variances closer to equality and enables the analysis of variance to be applied to the transformed data. To facilitate the use of this transformation, a table of x'' is given to 2 decimal places for x = 0(1)50(5)100(10)300...

摘要:The first 4 moments are calculated lor any power of a normally-distributed variate and for the product of any number of normally-distributed variates (whether correlated or uncorrelated). Results are expressed in terms of the means and coeffs. of variation of the original distributions. Since linear measurements on biol. material are frequently nearly normal in their distributions, these results may be applicable to the distributions of the wts. or volumes of organisms.

摘要:The simultaneous distribution of sample canonical correlations between 2 sets of statistical variates, when the population canonical correlations are zero, gives rise to more than one possible test of significance for the largest correlation. One test depends on the distribution of the largest correlation for given values of the remainder, and the logical position of this test among tests of significance in multivariate analysis is discussed.

摘要:The incomplete [beta]-function plays an important part in many biological applications of statistical methods. In particular, the significance levels of Fisher''s z-distribution or Snedecor''s F-distribution can be obtained easily from those of the incomplete [beta]-function, as explained in this paper. The significance levels are tabulated to 5 significant figures for 50, 25, 10, 5, 2.5, 1 and 0.5% probabilities. The degrees of freedom for which entries are given are as follows: v 1 = l (1) 1...
