摘要:
In entomological field experiments the variance of the number of insects per plot may be a quadratic function of the mean number of insects, i.e.: o2 = M + kM 2. In such cases the transformation x'' = k-1/3 sinh-1 (kx)1/2, where x is the number of insects, tends to bring the variances closer to equality and enables the analysis of variance to be applied to the transformed data. To facilitate the use of this transformation, a table of x'' is given to 2 decimal places for x = 0(1)50(5)100(10)300; k = 0.00(0.02)0.1(0.05)0.3(0.10)0.6, 0.8. 1. The effect of the transformation is illustrated on data from 6 expts. In expts. where the use of this transformation is intended, Beall suggests that each treatment be replicated twice within every block, so as to provide data from which the factor k can be estimated without difficulty.
