摘要:The miniaturization of transistors is approaching its limits owing to challenges in heat management and information transfer speed1. To overcome these obstacles, emerging technologies such as spintronics2 are being developed, which make use of the electron's spin as well as its charge. Local phenomena at interfaces or structural defects will greatly influence the efficiency of spin-based devices, making the ability to study spin-wave propagation at the nanoscale and atomic scale a key challeng...

摘要:All contemporary Eurasians trace most of their ancestry to a small population that dispersed out of Africa about 50,000 years ago (ka)1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8-9. By contrast, fossil evidence attests to earlier migrations out of Africa10, 11, 12, 13, 14-15. These lines of evidence can only be reconciled if early dispersals made little to no genetic contribution to the later, major wave. A key question therefore concerns what factors facilitated the successful later dispersal that led to long-term...

摘要:Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) persistently infects more than 90% of the human population, causing infectious mononucleosis1, susceptibility to autoimmune diseases2 and multiple malignancies of epithelial or B cell-origin3. EBV infects epithelial cells and B cells through interaction between viral glycoproteins and different host receptors4, but it has remained unknown whether a common receptor mediates infection of its two major host cell targets. Here, we establish R9AP as a crucial EBV receptor f...

摘要:To absorb nutrients and support commensal microorganisms, the host induces tolerogenic immune responses through peripheral regulatory T (pTreg) cells1,2. Previous studies identified conventional type 1 dendritic cells (cDC1s) as initiators of dietary pTreg cells3. However, here we report that food-specific pTreg cells are induced exclusively by the recently identified ROR gamma t antigen-presenting cells4, 5, 6, 7-8 and not by conventional dendritic cells. Instead, our data suggest that pTreg ...

摘要:Mouse lemurs are the smallest and fastest reproducing primates, as well as one of the most abundant, and they are emerging as a model organism for primate biology, behaviour, health and conservation. Although much has been learnt about their ecology and phylogeny in Madagascar and their physiology, little is known about their cellular and molecular biology. Here we used droplet-based and plate-based single-cell RNA sequencing to create Tabula Microcebus, a transcriptomic atlas of 226,000 cells...
