摘要:The field study reported here explored the relationship between the job insecurity associated with a layoff and the work effort of employees who survived it. The relationship took the form of an inverted U, particularly among survivors whose economic need to work was relatively high. Theoretical implications are discussed, as are the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research.

摘要:This longitudinal study of a national sample examined the effects of workers' gender and race on their entrance into managerial positions in public and private organizations over a period of four years. Results suggested that black workers had promotion advantages in both sectors and that women had promotion advantages in the private sector.

摘要:Distributive justice was found to be a more important predictor of two personal outcomes, pay satisfaction and job satisfaction, than procedural justice, whereas the reverse was true for two organizational outcomes-organizational commitment and subordinate's evaluation of supervisor. However, procedural and distributive justice also interacted in predicting organizational outcomes. We discuss limitations of this study and directions for future research.

摘要:Predictions based on the human capital, gender discrimination, and social identity theories were tested. Individuals with salient career identities were willing to expend extra effort at work and received higher merit increases than people with salient family identities. When we controlled identity salience, neither extensive family responsibilities nor female gender adversely affected merit increases. 摘要:A model of individual and situational influences on individuals' training-related motivation and training effectiveness based on valence-instrumentality-expectancy theory was developed.
