摘要:In this study, we investigate how trust affects the performance of ongoing teams. We propose a multiple mediator model in which different team processes act as mediating mechanisms that transmit the positive effects of trust to team performance. Drawing on a data set of ongoing tax consulting teams, we found support for the mediated effects of trust via team monitoring and team effort. Our results did not support the mediating role of team reflexivity. These findings contribute to understandin...

摘要:Drawing on job demands and control theory, we propose a model demonstrating how client variability and safety climate influence occupational well-being in the nursing service environment. We surveyed 194 registered nurses regarding client variability, safety climate, and occupational strain in two large hospitals and obtained injury data for the six months after primary data collection. We found that unit-level safety climate moderated the partially mediated relationship between client variabi...

摘要:Stable category meanings act as institutions that facilitate market exchange by providing bases for comparison and valuation. Yet little is known about meaning construction in new categories or how meaning translates into valuation criteria. We address this gap in a descriptive study of these processes in an emerging category: modern Indian art. Discourse analysis revealed how market actors shaped the construction of meaning in the new category by reinterpreting historical constructs in ways t...

摘要:This research extends agency theory by exploring the influence of varied, competing, principal interests on executive actions. Findings reveal that ownership of a firm by dedicated institutional investors, who hold concentrated portfolios over time, is positively associated with firm use of strategic competitive actions. Ownership by transient institutional investors, who hold broad portfolios and make frequent trades based on current earnings, is negatively associated with strategic competiti...

摘要:Departing from the emphasis on individual-level stress processes in prior expatriate research, we develop a multilevel model of expatriate cross-cultural motivation and effectiveness (motivation and effectiveness pertaining to cross-cultural contexts) that incorporates the influences of foreign subsidiary-level attributes. Analyses of multi-source and multilevel data collected from 556 expatriates in 31 foreign subsidiaries indicated that expatriate cross-cultural motivation was more positivel...

摘要:I examine the impact of the geographic distribution of R&D activity on the quality of innovation. Through an analysis of patent data from 100 firms in the global semiconductor manufacturing industry, I find that the impact of geographic distribution of R&D on innovation quality takes an inverted-U shape and that firms are heterogeneous in the benefits derived from this geographic distribution. Results indicate that two characteristics technological diversity of resources and intraorganizationa...

摘要:We examined the role of affect (pleasant or unpleasant feelings) and decision frames (gains or losses) in risk taking in a 20-day stock investment simulation in which 101 participants rated their current feelings while making investment decisions. As predicted, affect attenuated the relationships between decision frames and risk taking. After experiencing losses, individuals made more risky choices, in keeping with the framing effect. However, this tendency decreased and/or disappeared when lo...

摘要:This theory-building analysis spotlights a dynamic that occurs between decoupling, legitimacy, and institutionalized misconduct. Using data gathered from a case study of widespread deceptive sales practices at a large financial services firm, we demonstrate the dangers of decoupling an organizational compliance program from the core business activities of an organization. We illustrate how decoupling created a legitimacy facade that enabled the institutionalization of misconduct and precipitat...

摘要:We investigate the psychological phenomenon of rivalry and propose that competition is inherently relational, thus extending the literatures on competition between individuals, groups, and firms. Specifically, we argue that competitors' relationships, determined by their proximity, attributes, and prior competitive interactions, influence the subjective intensity of rivalry between them, which in turn affects their competitive behavior. Initial tests in NCAA basketball support these ideas, ind...

摘要:Through a qualitative study of the emergence of unlikely activism from committed members of the Catholic Church, we examine how identification can trigger and shape a change effort. We uncover how crafting split identification allows members to retain their identification with normative aspects of an institution, while disidentifying with, and seeking to change, organizational aspects. Our process model traces how members split their identification, attempt to repair the split by seeking chang...
