摘要:We document that firms with low prices are more impacted by low-cost competition. To explain this pattern, we propose an empirical model of trade with random-coefficient demand and endogenous product quality. Unlike commonly used demand systems (e.g., constant elasticity of substitution, nested logit), this model generates rich substitution patterns and implies an 'escape-competition' effect: in response to low-cost competition, firms have an incentive to upgrade their product quality. 摘要:Women tend to experience a substantial decline in their labour income after their first child is born, while men do not. Do such 'child penalties' also exist in the political arena? Using comprehensive administrative data from Norway, we find that women are less likely than men to secure elected office after their first child is born. 摘要:We experimentally study effort provision and network formation in the linear-quadratic game characterised by positive externality and complementarity of effort choices among network neighbours. We compare experimental outcomes to the equilibrium and efficient allocations and study the impact of group size and linking costs. 摘要:We empirically investigate the relationship between corruption and growth using a firm-level dataset that is unique in scale, covering almost 88,000 firms across 141 economies in 2006-20, with wide-ranging corruption experiences. The scale and detail of our data allow us to explore the corruption-growth relationship at a very local level, within industries in a relatively narrow geography. 摘要:This paper shows that job polarisation-i.e., the disappearance of routine jobs-is changing the characteristics of the labour market. This has structural implications for the relationship between inflation and unemployment, the price Phillips curve. 摘要:We consider a bargaining game in which both sides are uncertain about their opponent's commitment, which leads to delay and welfare loss in equilibrium. We address the following question: does ex ante better public information about a player improve expected social welfare? 摘要:This paper studies how fiscal decentralisation affects labour supply. It explores a reform that increased the fiscal autonomy of Italian municipalities by replacing government transfers with revenues from a local property tax. 摘要:Conditional cash transfer programmes have spread to over 60 countries in the past two decades, but little is known about their long-term effects.
