摘要:Certified management standards (CMS), like norms, rely on decentralized enforcement processes to guide firm behaviors. I analyze how two elements of CMS-codification and certification-enable this institution to shape firm behaviors in settings where norms are ineffective. 摘要:This article illustrates how work contexts motivate employees to care about making a positive difference in other people's lives. I introduce a model of relational job design to describe how jobs spark the motivation to make a prosocial difference, and how this motivation affects employees' actions and identities. 摘要:We review two important schools within business and society research, which we label positivist and postpositivist corporate social responsibility (CSR). The former is criticized because of its instrumentalism and normative vacuity and the latter because of its relativism, foundationalism, and utopianism. We propose a new approach, based on Jurgen Habermas's theory of democracy, and we define the new role of the business firm as a political actor in a globalizing society.

摘要:This special issue contains six papers that address a variety of practical research process questions. The papers explore how theory and method inevitably interact in particular organization and management studies. Here we offer an overview of how theory and method have been treated to date by organization researchers and suggest that respecting both the primacy of theory and the primacy of evidence is no easy task but a necessary balancing practice that characterizes high-quality research.

摘要:Group efficacy has emerged as an important and significant predictor of group effectiveness. However, most conceptual work on group efficacy fails to capture its complexity. In this article we extend extant theory and develop a more in-depth model of how group efficacy develops and operates within existing groups, including complex moderating factors. We conclude with a discussion of implications and future research concerning motivation in collaborative efforts.

摘要:We present a theoretical model of contextualized anger expression to challenge prominent antisocial, aggression, and individual actor perspectives reflected in the current literature, and we assert that organizational observers' judgments and reactions help determine whether anger results in more negative or positive outcomes. 摘要:In view of recent corporate scandals, we argue that corporate governance can learn from public governance. Institutions devised to control and discipline the behavior of executives in the political sphere can give new insights into how to improve the governance of firms. We discuss proposals in four specific areas: manager compensation. the division of power within firms, rules of succession in top positions, and institutionalized competition in core areas of the corporation.
