摘要:Grand challenges are system-wide problems. While top-down approaches to mitigating grand challenges may have potentially far-reaching impact, such initiatives from the higher scales can fail because of limited knowledge of ground realities. At the same time, resilient local efforts to address societal challenges can have limited reach. How can a grassroots organization work across locations and scales to address a grand challenge? We report the findings of a longitudinal case study of the Chil...

摘要:Job demands-resources research has largely adopted a variable-centered approach to test main and interactive effects of demands and resources on employee outcomes. However, this approach cannot detect distinct configurations of job demands and resources that may lead to the same outcomes, and the many multiplicative models attempting to do so have received little support. We take a person-centered theoretical approach to examine configurations of demands and resources that are sufficient to pr...

摘要:Employee awards programs are prevalent in organizations. This research examines a group of employees who have received relatively less attention in the employee awards literature: those who are nominated for but fail to receive an award. Integrating social comparison theory with the functional theory of counterfactual thinking, we argue that nonwinner nominees go through complex motivational states and affective experiences, which influence their collaboration responsiveness to colleagues. We ...

摘要:We propose a novel process through which status shocks may enhance performance. Specifically, we theorize that, when status shocks include a ritualistic conferment of social prestige-such as in the case of tournament rituals-participating in that ritual enactment may increase tournament winners' productivity and improve the inputs they receive, thereby improving their overall performance. We also consider the duration of that performance improvement, finding a decay that is consistent with our...

摘要:In this study we consider whether (a) image-and word-based communication modes and (b) warmth and competence cues vary in their relative influence on different levels of stakeholder engagement on social media. Specifically, we explore social media fitness influencers' abilities to attract followers and get followers to positively interact with them via posts and comments. We theorize that differences in the ways each communica-tion mode is processed, and differences in how competence and warmt...

摘要:The reentry period after maternity leave can be a stressful but important transition for mothers, their significant others, and their organizations. In the present study, we integrate conservation of resources theory, the crossover model, and the relative contribution model to understand the influence of perceived organizational support during reentry on both mothers' and their significant others' home stress and, ultimately, workplace experiences. Beyond actor effects, we investigate the rela...

摘要:Whereas advocates point to benefits of employing people with disabilities for organizations, employers' concern over negative customer reactions is still a barrier to the employment of people with disabilities in service occupations. We contribute to this discussion and the management literature on disability by examining the effects of receiving service from employees with a hearing disability and employees who use a wheelchair on corporate reputation. Based on signaling theory, stereotypes, ...

摘要:People pursuing careers outside organizations often face a career progression paradox: they must develop expertise to find new work opportunities, but such expertise is largely acquired through accumulating work experience to which they seldom have access. Research has proposed that progressive role expansion-starting one's career special-ized in a single work role and later expanding into new work roles-would be helpful to navigate this challenge. However, we propose that when women engage in...
