摘要：This paper investigates whether and how import competition affects firm innovation. Using China's World Trade Organization (WTO) accession as a quasi-natural experiment, we find that import competition reduces firm innovation, which is consistent with the Schumpeterian effect We also find heterogeneous treatment effects across firm productivity and patent types in a way consistent with preference and knowledge spillover effects, but not with escape-competition and trapped-factor effects.

摘要：This paper estimates the effects of a youth training program in Bangladesh on labor market outcomes. The program, organized as a randomized controlled trial , provides on-the-job and classroom training to disadvantaged unemployed youth. ITT results show that six months after the intervention, on-the-job training increases labor market participation by 16 percentage points and earnings by 23%. 摘要：Developing country lenders are taking advantage of fintech tools to create fully digital loans on mobile phones. Using administrative and survey data, we study the take up and impacts of one of the most popular digital loan products in the world, M-Shwari in Kenya. While 34% of those eligible for a loan take it, the loan does not substitute for other credit. 摘要：We conduct a randomized field experiment to investigate the benefits of an intensive chess training program undertaken by primary school students in a developing country context. We examine the effects on academic outcomes, and a number of non-cognitive outcomes: risk preferences, patience, creativity and attention/focus. 摘要：Effective policy requires an accurate understanding of peoples' livelihoods activities. The data for this evidence is often generated via lengthy surveys where designated respondents provide information about their household members. 摘要：We use a two-stage experiment to study how a short-term subsidy for a new product affects uptake, usage, and future demand for the same product (a new solar lamp). We use an auction design to gauge willingness-to-pay, and randomly vary the strike price across villages to create random variation in purchase prices and uptake across villages.
