摘要:This paper studies the suppression of an infectious disease in the canonical susceptible-infectious-recovered model. It derives three results. First, if technically feasible, the optimal response to a sufficiently small outbreak is halting transmissions instead of building up immunity through infections. 摘要:In a Hotelling model with a climate coalition and a free-riding fringe, we compare demand-side and supply side climate policies aimed at keeping CO2 concentration below a ceiling equivalent to global warming of 2 degrees C. 摘要:Relying on a large-scale experiment in Peru, this study evaluates the effects of an in-class intervention on financial literacy and financial behaviour. As soon as the programme is over, treated students record significant financial literacy gains that do not hinder their academic performance. 摘要:We present a field experiment investigating treatment effects of an additional teacher in the classroom on student learning. The treatment targets literacy instruction during first and second grades. Nearly 6,000 students in 300 classrooms participated in the experiment. The treatment has on average no effects on student learning. 摘要:This paper shows that non-tariff measures may fully respect the non-discrimination principle of the World Trade Organisation and still act as a protectionist device. Non-tariff measures that raise costs of all firms induce some exit, reallocating market shares towards the most efficient firms. The paper analyses when this mechanism generates protectionism. 摘要:We experimentally test how psychological motivations can impact the processing of purely objective information. We first document that, when the high-stakes College Entrance Exam is held in the month of Ramadan, Chinese Muslim students perform significantly worse. When asked about the impact of fasting, they severely underestimate the cost of taking the exam during Ramadan, even when presented with direct empirical evidence. 摘要:We study the interaction between family and school inputs by identifying the causal impact of information about school quality on parental time investment into children. Inspection ratings provide news that shifts parental beliefs about school quality, and hence investment into children. 摘要:We study whether college admissions should implement quotas for lower-income applicants. We develop an overlapping-generation model and calibrate it to data from Brazil, where such a policy is widely implemented. In our model, parents choose how much to invest in their child's education, thereby increasing both human capital and likelihood of college admission. 摘要:We show in a large-scale field experiment that a brief exposure to female role models working in scientific fields affects high school students' perceptions and choices of undergraduate major. The classroom interventions reduced the prevalence of stereotypical views on jobs in science and gender differences in abilities.
