摘要:This study used a repeated measures time-series design to examine the immediate and longer term impact of a structured, face-to-face developmental peer appraisal on 294 undergraduates in 44 self-managing work groups (SMWGs) and 217 MBA students in 36 SMWGs. Results revealed an immediate positive impact on perceptions of open communication, task motivation, social loafing, group viability, cohesion, and satisfaction. Also, the effects of the peer appraisal were not dependent on the perceived ra...

摘要:In a departure from the organizational development literature, this study hypothesized that managerial responses to organizational change are influenced by 7 dispositional traits (locus of control, generalized self-efficacy, self-esteem, positive affectivity, openness to experience, tolerance for ambiguity, and risk aversion). Data were collected from 6 organizations (N = 514) to test the hypotheses. The 7 traits were reduced to 2 factors: Positive Self-Concept and Risk Tolerance. Both of thes...

摘要:The effects of preselection of predictors (e.g., stepwise regression) on formula estimates of cross-validity were examined. Three actual data sets were used to generate populations of varying sample size, population validity, and number of predictors. No formula estimate provided an unbiased estimate of the population cross-validity, although some formula estimates were less biased than others. More important, having an adequate sample size (relative to number of predictors) was the issue most...

摘要:This study presented and tested a model of response to involuntary job loss based on R. S. Lazarus and S. Folkman's (1984) theory of stress, appraisal, and coping. The sample included 202 individuals who provided self-report survey data at approximately 6 and 12 months following a company closing. Structural equation modeling provided support for the fit of the overall model and partial support for the hypotheses. Specifically, results indicated that coping resources are related both to the co...

摘要:The effects of explanation features on participants' reactions toward a selection decision were examined in 2 studies. In Study 1, students were provided with scenarios where informational (justification, procedural, personal, control) and sensitivity (sensitive or control) features of explanations were crossed with a selection decision to assess their effects on 3 applicant reactions: process fairness, self-perceptions, and organizational perceptions. In general, personal information enhanced...

摘要:Recent theoretical developments have enabled the empirical study of trust for specific referents in organizations. The authors conducted a 14-month field study of employee trust for top management. A 9-month quasi-experiment found that the implementation of a more acceptable performance appraisal system increased trust for top management. The 3 proposed factors of trustworthiness (ability, benevolence, and integrity) mediated the relationship between perceptions of the appraisal system and tru...

摘要:Two content factors (issue importance and feasibility) were manipulated for agents in a 2 x 2 factorial experiment using a role-play exercise with 364 students in management courses. A path analysis provided support for the causal model, which specifies that agent perception of importance and feasibility affect the agent's influence behavior, which affects the target's perception of importance and feasibility, which affects the outcome of the influence attempt (target commitment to carry out t...
