摘要:Coalitions are important in organizational decision making, but the question of how coalitions are built and make decisions in response to firm performance is still not sufficiently explored. In this study, we develop and test theory on how potential coalitions are built through shared experience and recruitment of allies. When organizations respond to performance relative to aspiration levels, either as problemistic search following low performance or opportunity exploration following high pe...

摘要:Although vertical and horizontal fit in strategic human resource management are foundational to the links between a high-performance work system (HPWS) and organizational performance, little is known about how these two fits interact to affect organizational performance. We address this shortcoming while also advancing knowledge on each type of fit. We offer a more nuanced examination of vertical fit (which has typically been assessed with respect to organizations' broad strategic types) by fo...

摘要:Organizational scholars concur that supportive work relationships can attach employees to their workplace and improve the quality of organizational life, but they lack insights into how or why this occurs. Moreover, models of social support focus on what relationships provide without considering the fit between what people need and receive from their work relationships. Addressing these limitations, we developed and tested a theoreticalmodel of relational attachment at work using a complementa...

摘要:We develop a model of dual identity affirmation through which professionals make sense of their career and family identities by incorporating past and future identity enactment into present self-concepts, and by enacting suspended career or family identities in fleeting momentary ways. The model emerged from a qualitative inductive study of professionals whose career identities had been affirmed by achieving early career success recognized by a 40 Under 40 Award. Identity affirmation often spa...

摘要:In this paper, I present a longitudinal study of two smart city projects that brought together experts from diverse knowledge domains. Both projects structured collaboration around the development of boundary objects that could integrate actors' expertise. In both projects, however, the objects sparked conflicts that exacerbated rather than attenuated differences. I develop a process model exploring how and why the development of boundary objects can manifest as divisive conflict that derails ...

摘要:Employees' creative ideas often do not receive positive assessments from managers and, therefore, lose the opportunity to be implemented. We draw on Dutton and Ashford's (1993) issue-selling framework to test a dual-approach model predicting that employees' use of both high levels of idea enactment behaviors (characterized by use of demos, prototypes, or other physical objects when presenting ideas) and high levels of upward influence tactics will have an interactive effect on the extent to wh...
