摘要:Using data on union certification elections, we estimate the impact of unionization on firms' investment behavior. Employing both a standard q model and an investment surprises technique, we find that union certification significantly reduces investment in the year following the election. 摘要:This article analyzes wage changes with an unbalanced panel from the Spanish Collective Bargaining in Large Firms survey. Central to the analysis are the joint determination of strike and wage outcomes and, in particular, the estimation of the slope of the wage concession curve. 摘要:This article estimates the effects of changes in pension plans and social security in the 1970s and 1980s on the steady state retirement of men. Work incentives associated with pension coverage and plan characteristics are calculated primarily from the 1969-79 Retirement History Study and the 1983 and 1989 Surveys of Consumer Finances. 摘要:Estimated negative substitution effects on work hours question the empirical validity of the classical labor supply model. Estimates are reconciled by allowing a dual choice of hours and effort for piece-rate workers. In such a model, these negative substitution effects result from substituting on- and off-the-job leisure. We test our model using controlled experimentation on human subjects. 摘要:We examine the effects of minimum wage legislation in Canada over the period 1975-93. For teenagers we find that a 10% increase in the minimum wage is associated with roughly a 2.5% decrease in employment. We also find that this result is driven by low frequency variation in the data. At high frequencies the elasticity is positive and insignificant. An increase in female participation drives up the wage offer to female workers and raises female employment.
