摘要:Proteins have been designed that assemble in different ways depending on whether an 'effector' molecule is present - a demonstration of allostery, the phenomenon that enables switch-like control of protein functions in nature. Designer proteins that exhibit the phenomenon of allostery.

摘要:In lactating mothers, the high calcium (Ca2+) demand for milk production triggers significant bone loss1. Although oestrogen normally counteracts excessive bone resorption by promoting bone formation, this sex steroid drops precipitously during this postpartum period. 摘要:Oligosaccharides have myriad functions throughout biological processes1,2. Chemical synthesis of these structurally complex molecules facilitates investigation of their functions. With a dense concentration of stereocentres and hydroxyl groups, oligosaccharide assembly through O-glycosylation requires simultaneous control of site, stereo- and chemoselectivities3,4.
