摘要:The unique dynamics of the crowdfunding process have attracted substantial scholarly attention over the past decade. In this study, we investigate how crowdfunding campaign starters' response to potential backers in the discussion board influences backer accumulation in reward-based crowdfunding platforms. We suggest that the starter response serves to reduce information asymmetry and signal the positive qualities of the campaign starter(s). Accordingly, we shed light on the threefold implicat...

摘要:Competition between user-generated content platforms (e.g., Twitch, Spotify, YouTube) is characterized by fierce talent poaching of highly popular stars on the supply side. However, little is known about how the loss of a star affects content production from former cocreating peers on multisided content platforms. Whereas theory suggests that star turnovers might decrease the demand for cocreating peers or trigger them to depart the platform as well, empirical understanding is still lacking. T...

摘要:Online sales of limited inventory such as flash sales and lightning deals have become popular among e-commerce retailers including Amazon and eBay. Motivated by empirical studies on how inventory information affects demand in flash sales, we study the retailer's best timing of disclosing inventory information to maximize the expected sales in a finite horizon. We build a model of customers' utility within a Bayesian updating framework to capture the observational learning and scarcity effects ...

摘要:Whereas service firms have started to deploy service robots on the service front line, it remains less understood whether all types of service firms gain a similar benefit from this advance in information technologies. With one secondary data analysis of review content from a leading travel website, one field study conducted at a hotel, and three randomized controlled experiments, the current research addresses this important managerial issue. We propose that replacing human service providers ...

摘要:The rapid growth of digital platforms and online commerce has generated vast amounts of proprietary data that firms increasingly seek to monetize. Sellers face two fundamental choices: whether to provide access exclusively to a single buyer or nonexclusively to multiple buyers, and whether to sell stand-alone data or offer a data product that integrates data with analytics services. Buyers, in turn, must decide how to structure negotiations-separately with the seller and the consultant, or wit...

摘要:This study explores consumers' footprints on a multichannel e-commerce platform to model their multichannel sequential search (MSS) behaviors. We develop a novel search model that characterizes consumers' MSS behaviors as a threefold sequential search process consisting of cross-channel, cross-product, and cross-page searches, where consumers dynamically update their cross-channel reference prices along their search journeys. The evolving cross-channel reference price effect reshapes the attra...

摘要:Online reading platforms increasingly adopt a by-chapter purchase model and embed novel in-chapter commenting functions to alleviate consumer uncertainty about the quality of digital books. This study examines how these platform designs influence consumer learning and purchasing behavior. We develop a Bayesian learning model that captures how consumers form and update beliefs about book quality using both their own consumption experience and indirect signals derived from prior readers' in-chap...

摘要:The success of a blockchain venture critically hinges on the contribution of blockchain developers. Blockchain ventures are typically developed as open-source projects, where some developers contribute voluntarily, whereas others are incentivized by token rewards to participate. We examine whether such token incentives are effective in motivating developers to contribute, in a market teeming with opportunistic activities. To address this question, we leverage a unique setting where token incen...

摘要:Digital technologies hold immense potential for enhancing collaboration and teamwork. Collective-level efficacy, or the collective belief in the ability to collaborate effectively, is a crucial factor influencing traditional team performance that is now being explored in the context of digitally enabled virtual teams. However, despite the idiosyncratic challenges of virtual teams, researchers studying collective-level efficacy's effects tend to directly apply traditional team concepts, which d...
