摘要:International certifiable management standards that have been advocated as a governance mechanism for firm self-regulation of corporate social responsibility issues are effective only if certified firms comply with the requirements of the standards. Our empirical analysis shows that ISO-certified firms in China strategically select their level of compliance depending on customer preferences, customer monitoring, and expected sanctions by customers. 摘要:This paper examines the impact of corruption on foreign direct investment ( FDI). It argues that corruption results not only in a reduction in FDI, but also in a change in the composition of country of origin of FDI. It presents two key findings. 摘要:The GLOBE research program expanded the Hofstede model of five dimensions of national cultures to 18. A re-analysis based on GLOBE's 2004 summary book produced five meta-factors. One was significantly correlated with GNP/ capita and, from the Hofstede dimensions, primarily with Power Distance. 摘要:This paper examines cultural and leadership variables associated with corporate social responsibility values that managers apply to their decision- making. 摘要:We investigate the effects of trade liberalization on profitability and financial leverage using Canadian data arising from implementation of the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement. We find that falling domestic tariffs are associated with declining profits, especially for import-competing firms, while falling foreign tariffs are associated with increasing profits, especially for export-oriented firms. 摘要:This study uses a unique sample to evaluate changes in shareholder wealth from announcements of expansion by US firms into 18 transition economies, through four entry modes, from 1987 to 1999. On average, expansion in transition economies is associated with significant positive wealth effects. 摘要:Wealthy families, as opposed to small public shareholders, characterize ownership of the large corporate sectors of many countries around the world. This paper shows that greater oligarchic family control over large corporations is associated with worse social economic outcomes. 摘要:This paper investigates the impact of the population in the 40-64 age band on share prices, using an annual time series data set for the period 1965-2002, and the impact of the superannuation fund on share prices using quarterly time series data for the period 1988 Q1 to 2002 Q4.
