摘要:Concerns have been raised about the use of single host- or home-country samples in analyzing the effects of cultural distance (CD). That is, the estimated effects of CD may be confounded with those of the underlying cultural dimensions or other contextual factors correlated with CD. This study reassesses the risk of confounding when using single-country samples through simulation analyses conducted under various conditions, including different sample sizes and structures, within- and between-c...

摘要:Most research on bottom-up innovation emphasizes that employees innovate by embracing uncertainty, a view rooted in Anglo-Saxon cultures that value risk-taking. However, countries influenced by Confucian traditions, which prioritize harmony and conflict avoidance, also achieve strong innovation outcomes, presenting a cultural paradox. We address this paradox by introducing face concerns, the desire to maintain or enhance one's social image, as a culturally specific mechanism shaping innovation...

摘要:This study investigates how institutional investors approach multinational companies (MNCs) with ties to tax havens by analyzing their ownership patterns. Leveraging quarterly holdings data from over 15,000 investors spanning 90 countries and more than 20,000 MNCs, we uncover that institutional ownership is noticeably higher for firms incorporated in tax havens compared to those merely operating subsidiaries there. Investors are especially drawn to the tax rate differential between a firm's in...

摘要:We examine the role of cybercrime legislation globally in shaping the stability of the banking system. We compile a novel dataset covering the enactment of cybercrime legislation in 132 developed and developing countries to test this research question empirically. We find that the enactment of cybercrime laws enhances the stability of the banking sector. This key finding holds across a comprehensive suite of robustness tests, including alternative measures of bank stability and model specifica...

摘要:Income inequality is a worldwide phenomenon that increasingly concerns scholars, policy-makers, business leaders, and ordinary citizens. Building on research emphasizing the role of firms in shaping societal outcomes, this study investigates how organizational pay structures-specifically the chief executive officer (CEO)-to-employee pay ratios-relate to societal-level income inequality and citizens' subjective well-being. Using a 15-year panel dataset of 53 countries, we find that higher CEO-t...

摘要:The world is witnessing an increase in interorganizational conflicts across borders, yet their impact on firms' international expansion remains largely underexplored. Building on intergroup contact theory, we theorize that involvement in conflict with a foreign firm constitutes a form of negative intergroup contact, which can spill over into broader unfavorable attitudes-not only toward the specific foreign entity involved but also toward the foreign market more generally. Specifically, we pre...
