摘要:Can emerging technologies transform not only markets, but also foster new regulatory change mechanisms? In the context of prevailing theories of regulatory change, this article explores the extent to which an interest-based explanation can account for the regulatory responses toward emerging Transportation Network Companies (TNCs). Based on a primary cross-city analysis of the 40 largest cities in the United States, the study found that although the existence of ex ante interest groups indeed ...

摘要:Given the unprecedented scale of intergovernmental development funding and the importance of institutional quality for human well-being, it is imperative to precisely understand the impact of development funds on corruption. In Europe, European Union (EU) Funds provide a boost to public spending in recipient member states while introducing additional corruption controls. We find that both autonomy from the executive and professionalization are necessary to improve compliance with labor law over time. Ou...

摘要:This paper examines how far the workplace inspection program established under the 2013 Accord on Fire and Building Safety has served to improve safety in Bangladesh garment factories, and the extent to which its operation has been influenced by factors that the literature suggests are important in shaping the outcomes of private regulatory initiatives. The findings suggest that such regulation can generate positive outcomes, even in the absence of strong public regulatory support. They also c...

摘要:This article provides an encompassing analysis of how economic crises affect social regulation. The analysis is based on an innovative dataset that covers policy output changes in 13 European countries over a period of 34 years (1980-2013) in the areas of pensions, unemployment, and child benefits. By performing a negative binomial regression analysis, we show that economic crises do matter for social policymaking. Our main empirical finding is that crises impinge on social regulation by openi...
