摘要:The Poisson formula assumes that events are independent of each other. For cases in which this is not true, e.g., railway accidents or contagious diseases, formulae are here developed which fit actual examples better than the Poisson formula.

摘要:Neither Merejkowsky''s nor Woo''s simometer gives the true maximum distance of the arc of the nasal bridge from the chord. The cranial coordinatograph will do this. The length of the arc may be measured with a tape and the index calculated on the assumption that the arc is a catenary.

摘要:Pearson''s system of frequency curves is obtained by integrating.[image].retaining only the first 3 terms of the denominator on the right-hand side. This paper deals with symmetrical curves obtained by retaining terms including c 4[chi]4. These give a better fit to certain distributions than second order Pearson curves or the normal curve.

摘要:Expressions are derived for the correlation surface as the product of the marginal frequency distributions by a series of orthogonal polynomials, as well as for the regression, clitic and kurtic curves.

摘要:The corrections here derived give more accurate results than are obtained by supposing the first frequency group on the same base as the others and using the Sheppard or Pairman-Pearson corrections. Auxiliary tables are provided.

摘要:Type silhouettes are given for Old Roumanian and Transylvanian Roumanian males. The 2 groups are closely allied, but hardly identical stocks. The Old Roumanians approach the Northern Albanians; the Transylvanian Roumanian silhouette is singularly close to the English.

摘要:When the fourth element of the hypergeometric series is not unity the system of frequency curves for which the slope divided by the ordinate is equal to the slope of the line joining successive terms of the series divided by the mid-ordinate is a Pearson curve multiplied by an exponential term. These curves fit the significant part of the series tolerably well. Methods of approximating to the sum of terms of a hypergeometrical series are developed.

摘要:If x individuals in a random sample of n possess a certain character we may determine confidence limits, p 1 and p 2, for the proportion p possessing the character in the sampled population, such that in repeated samples the prediction that p 1 < p < p 2 is correct in a specified % of the cases. This % is called the confidence coefficient. Charts are given to determine confidence limits and to plan the size of sample necessary to provide a desired degree of accuracy in estimation.
