When the fourth element of the hypergeometric series is not unity the system of frequency curves for which the slope divided by the ordinate is equal to the slope of the line joining successive terms of the series divided by the mid-ordinate is a Pearson curve multiplied by an exponential term. These curves fit the significant part of the series tolerably well. Methods of approximating to the sum of terms of a hypergeometrical series are developed.
