摘要:This paper considers estimation of the unknown size N of a population based on multiple capture-recapture samples. We extend the Bayesian multiple recapture model to accommodate possible heterogeneity and dependence among the samples and possible heterogeneity within the samples. In the dependent model, we show that posterior inference for N is independent of almost all the nuisance parameters. 摘要:Systematic likelihood inference for frailty models is possible using Lee & Nelder's (1996) hierarchical likelihood. We develop an inferential method for frailty models via hierarchical likelihood, which gives a simple unified framework and a numerically efficient algorithm. Simulations and practical examples are presented to illustrate the new method.

摘要:Contributions in Biometrika to nonparametric statistics are surveyed, with particular emphasis on more recent work. It is argued that even in the journal's very early years it had interests in smoothing methods for density estimation, and in techniques for nonparametric regression, in addition to its more obvious focus on 'classical' nonparametric statistics such as ranking methods. Biometrika's early involvement with permutation testing has links to its contemporary work on bootstrap methods....

摘要:Although papers relating to survival analysis have appeared in Biometrika since the very first issue, the current emphasis on the topic in this journal is fairly new, especially as it relates to applications in biostatistics. This survey traces the development of survival analysis throughout the twentieth century as reflected in the pages of Biometrika, focusing primarily on work published since 1980.

摘要:The earliest important papers on planned experiments in Biometrika appeared within a year of each other in 1917 and 1918. Roughly speaking, one was concerned with design optimality and industrial experiments, the other with agricultural trials and blocking. We find this approximate division of the subject into two parts helpful in describing its development and growth.
