摘要:To explore when and why workplace training facilitates the retention of first-time workers from historically underrepresented groups in formal employment, I combine ethnographic fieldwork at an Indian garment factory employing firsttime women workers, personnel data over a two-year period, and survey data from a sample of new hires. 摘要:To understand how people cultivate and sustain authenticity in multiple, often shifting, work roles, we analyze qualitative data gathered over five years from a sample of 48 plural careerists-people who choose to simultaneously hold and identify with multiple jobs. We find that people with multiple work identities struggle with being, feeling, and seeming authentic both to their contextualized work roles and to their broader work selves. 摘要:To investigate how participants shape a field's social and symbolic boundaries over time, I conducted an in-depth longitudinal study of five core and peripheral communities in the emerging nanotechnology field from the early 1980s to 2005. 摘要:We investigate the effect of a status-enhancing prize on the attention that a recipient's neighbors'' subsequently receive. Do neighbors-individuals who work in economic, intellectual, or artistic domains that are proximate to prize winners-bask in the reflected glory of the ascendant actor and therefore gain as well? 摘要:Using a longitudinal in-depth field study at NASA, I investigate how the open, or peer-production, innovation model affects R&D professionals, their work, and the locus of innovation.
