摘要:Empirical studies of non-cognitive skills often rely on the assumption that these skills are stable over time. We analyse the change in a specific non-cognitive skill, that is locus of control, to assess the validity of this assumption directly. We find that short- and medium-run changes in locus of control are modest on average, are concentrated among the young or very old, are unlikely to be economically meaningful and are not related to demographic, labour market and health events. 摘要:There has been an increase in the number of children going to school in England who do not speak English as a first language. We investigate whether this has an impact on the educational outcomes of native English speakers at the end of primary school. We show that the negative correlation observed in the raw data is mainly an artefact of selection: non-native speakers are more likely to attend school with disadvantaged native speakers. 摘要:The process of individual identity formation is still an enigma, as is the capacity of public bodies to intervene in it. In 1983, the Catalan education system became bilingual, and Catalan, along with Spanish, was taught in schools. Using survey data from Catalonia we show that respondents who have been exposed for a longer time period to teaching in Catalan have stronger Catalan feelings. 摘要:In this article, we analyse how the share of immigrant children in the classroom affects the educational attainment of native Dutch children. Our analysis uses data from various sources, which allow us to characterise educational attainment in terms of reading literacy, mathematical skills and science skills. 摘要:Many governments wish to assess the quality of their universities. A prominent example is the UK's new Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.
