摘要：This paper assesses whether, how, and to what extent U.S. exports are sensitive to national differences in patent rights. I estimate bilateral trade equations that account for trade distortions related to patent rights using data on state-to-country manufacturing exports in 1992. I find that weak patent rights are a barrier to U.S. exports, but only to countries that pose a strong threat-of-imitation (e.g. China). 摘要：We examine the growth promoting roles of R&D, international R&D spillovers, and trade in a world econometric model. A country can raise its total factor productivity by investing in R&D. But countries can also boost their productivity by trading with other countries that have large 'stocks of knowledge' from their cumulative R&D activities. 摘要：This paper develops a specific-factor variant of the 'quality ladders' model without the scale effect property. We analyze the dynamic effects of contingent tariffs that are imposed on imports whenever domestic firms lose their global technological leadership positions to foreign firms. 摘要：We analyze the current account dynamics for a small country model with habit-forming consumers and costly investment. The model has several empirical and policy implications. (i) It is consistent with stylized facts regarding the effects of productivity shocks and increases in fiscal spending and regarding the savings-investment co-movement. 摘要：We use an open-economy product-cycle model of domestic high-tech/low-tech wages to motivate an empirical specification and test key model-implied restrictions. With data for 11 countries from an internationally comparable data set from the OECD, we conduct panel cointegration analysis that supports the hypothesis that foreign and domestic innovation rates affect domestic wage inequality by equal and opposite magnitudes.
