摘要:This article utilizes an exact match file between the 1978 March Current Population Survey and administrative records from the Social Security Administration to analyze errors in the reporting of annual income using nonparametric methodology.The article extends work of Bound and Krueger, and the results confirm many of the findings in Bound and Krueger. 摘要:In the United States and Britain, there is a family gap between the wages of mothers and other women. Differential returns to marital and parental status explain 40%-50% of the gender gap. Another 30%-40% is explained by women's lower levels of work experience and lower returns to experience. 摘要:We attempt to further characterize the search strategies of the employer. In the article, we discuss how characteristics of the employer or conditions that the employer faces affect the optimal search strategies and the probability of filling a vacancy in each period. Semiparametric and parametric methods are used to estimate hazard rates of filling vacancies. 摘要:Over the years there have been frequent changes in unemployment insurance(UI) benefits. Such changes could influence spells in progress as well as future spells. If individuals anticipate changes, they are likely to adjust their behavior. The effect of changes in benefits on unemployment duration, therefore, will be difficult to predict accurately without accounting for individual expectations. 摘要:This article analyzes the dynamics of joint labor force behavior of older couples in the United States. Using the Retirement History Survey (RHS) I analyze the determinants of joint retirement and the effect of one spouse's labor force status on the labor force transitions of the other spouse. 摘要:The theory of compensating differentials predicts a negative relationship between wages and good working conditions, while the theory of segmentation predicts a positive one. Combining the hedonic wage model and the wages-employment collective bargaining model, we show the relevance of a further factor: a union power effect. 摘要:This article builds a simple model of worker sorting and match-specific productivity to explain interindustry wage differentials. High-skilled workers sort themselves into the industries offering more jobs that are better matched to them, and those industries pay higher wages (on average).
