Notions of input-neutral technical change and neutral productivity growth are compared and constrasted. Three natural conjugate ''neutrality pairs,'' each corresponding to a notion of input-neutral technical change and neutral productivity growth, are considered and their structural implications are deduced. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a technology to satisfy the various neutralities jointly are developed. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
