摘要:This table gives the 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0 percentage points, to four significant figures, of the incomplete beta function. As the partial sum of the binomial series, the table covers sample sizes from 10 to 50. Binomial confidence limits and lower percentage points of all order statistics may be read directly from the table-Percentage points of the F distr. may be obtained by a simple transformation.

摘要:A method is given for estimating the parameter of a Poisson distr. when one or more classes at the lower end of the sample are missing. The method is checked by random sampling expts. and by comparison with maximum likelihood estimates.

摘要:Tables for the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for goodness of fit given previously by Massey, one of whose papers was reviewed in these abstracts (35632), have been recomputed and expanded. The tables may be used to compute confidence intervals for the true distribution and to estimate sample sizes required for confidence intervals of prespecified width. It is shown that for N > 80, the asymptotic approximation is good enough for practical purposes. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov method is compared with othe...

摘要:A two parameter function for fitting actuarial survival curves from cancer patients is derived from theoretical considerations. The function is fitted to two sets of data, one from patients with breast cancer and one from patients with stomach cancer. Each set is subdivided according to the presence or absence of metastasis. The fits obtained are quite good except for certain systematic deviations which are not consistent from one set of data to the next. Life expectations are calculated from ...

摘要:A method is given for estimating the mean and variance of a normal distribution truncated on one side. The method applies when the point of truncation is known and when the number of observations falling in the truncated portion is either known or unknown. Charts are given which expedite the calculations necessary for the method which differs somewhat from methods proposed by other writers. Applns. occur in mortality studies where estimates of mean survival times are desired.

摘要:A test based on cumulative distr. functions which can be used in place of the conventional X2-test for checking agreement between empirical and theoretical distrs. The method is descr. simply and tables are given which facilitate performance of the test, computation of its power, and calculation of confidence limits. An example is carried through completely. It is shown to be superior to the X 2-test in many respects, and its few limitations are stated explicitly.

摘要:A non-parametric one-sided test for the difference between two variables. The test is especially useful for moderate or large-size samples for which application of similar tests is prohibitively laborious. The method is applied to a clinical problem in the investigation of disease patterns.
