A method is given for estimating the mean and variance of a normal distribution truncated on one side. The method applies when the point of truncation is known and when the number of observations falling in the truncated portion is either known or unknown. Charts are given which expedite the calculations necessary for the method which differs somewhat from methods proposed by other writers. Applns. occur in mortality studies where estimates of mean survival times are desired.
