摘要:Agrochemical companies operate multi-echelon, long-lead-time supply chains to serve seasonal and uncertain demand for crop protection products from farmers around the globe. To match supply and demand in this challenging setting, alignment of the sales and supply chain functions is crucial. We investigate this alignment task, building on a case study. At the case company, cross-functional coordination is achieved through annual sales and operations planning (S&OP) budget meetings. In the budge...

摘要:We consider a dynamic resource provisioning problem for a supplier in which the availability of the provisioned resource is subject to random disruptions whose distribution is only indirectly observable through samples. To signal its commitment to service quality, the supplier adopts a service level agreement contract that specifies both the target service level and the associated penalty for violation over a finite contract period. The supplier needs to dynamically determine resource provisio...

摘要:Blockchain technology holds promise for improving access to financing within supply chains, especially for small and under-financed suppliers. Yet, the specific ways in which blockchain technology mitigates financing frictions and the features that contribute to successful platform implementations remain unclear. Following a theory elaboration approach, we close that gap by studying which financing frictions the blockchain-enabled supply chain financing (BCF) solutions aim to address, which bl...

摘要:The indirect productivity gains related to information technology (IT), known as IT externalities, in inter-firm contexts have been extensively studied. However, the impact of IT investments within a business unit (BU) of a multibusiness firm on the productivity of other BUs remains unclear. Additionally, the conditions that facilitate such intra-firm externalities are not well understood. Research on resource externalities within multibusiness firms typically focuses on capacity-sharing benef...

摘要:Leveraging government tax incentives to prompt corporate charitable giving has gained considerable popularity over the past decade. This paper sheds light on the broader consequences of the U.S. government's tax-subsidy policy for charitable food donations, which is determined based on the fair market value (FMV) of the donated products. We incorporate the tax-subsidy into a monopolist food retailer's after-tax profit function. Market demand is both price- and quality-dependent, and the shelf-...

摘要:In digital marketplaces, product ratings play a critical role in shaping consumer demand and seller success, yet their relationship with logistical factors remains unexplored. This study investigates how deviations from promised delivery dates, whether early or delayed, influence product ratings. Using transaction-level data from a major e-commerce platform encompassing over 11M product purchases and 500K customers, we estimate the causal effect of deviating from the promised delivery time on ...

摘要:In this paper, we study contextual stochastic optimization, where decisions are made under uncertainty and the distribution of random parameters can be partially inferred from covariates observed prior to decision-making. In many practical settings, these distributions also depend on the decisions themselves, a phenomenon known as the decision-dependent effect. Most existing studies address this issue by imposing structural assumptions on the relationship between decisions and the underlying d...

摘要:This study is focused on periodic Fisher markets where items with time-dependent and stochastic values are regularly replenished, and buyers aim to maximize their utilities by spending budgets on these items. Traditional approaches of finding a market equilibrium in the single-period Fisher market rely on complete information about buyers' utility functions and budgets. However, it is impractical to consistently enforce buyers to disclose this private information in a periodic setting. We intr...

摘要:Driven by advances in machine learning (ML), smart products improve over time through data-driven insights as ongoing user interactions generate usage data that enable the training, evaluation, and refinement of underlying algorithms. However, when firms implement strategies to collect more data to enhance product quality and profits, they must also consider strategic consumer behavior that may lead to unintended negative consequences. Specifically, consumers may intentionally postpone purchas...

摘要:The success of a gig platform is crucially driven by its ability to compete for labor supply. However, gig workers are independent contractors whose working schedules are not fully controlled by the platform. To overcome this challenge, gig platforms have commonly relied on bonus strategies to drive the participation of gig workers. We study the impact of bonus strategies on gig platforms and their welfare implications. We consider two types of bonus strategies used by gig platforms: (1) fixed...
