摘要：This article investigates the effectiveness of anticorruption practices against bribery incidence, highlighting top-down and bottom-up approaches. A random survey of local residents is used in conjunction with institutional anticorruption indicators. Findings suggest that the top-down approach works, but with substantial variation across practices. 摘要：Standard anticorruption interventions consist of intensified monitoring and sanctioning. Rooted in principal-agent theory, these interventions are based on the assumption that corrupt acts follow a rational cost-benefit calculation by gain-seeking individuals. Given their mixed results, however, these interventions require closer scrutiny.
