摘要:Populism is a political phenomenon that attempts to harness existing institutions for populist ends, often leading to negative consequences for businesses. However, can national institutions resist this pressure and mitigate the damage to firms? This paper investigates how populist electoral success influences corporate investment, unraveling the intricate connection between a country's political institutions and the investment behavior of companies. Through the lens of political uncertainty a...

摘要:Existing studies tend to focus on how a legal system reinforces the efficiency of its domestic firms or foreign companies that are subject to its domestic jurisdiction (e.g., via cross-listing). Our study provides critical normative implications in the era of financial globalization by showing that the influence of a country's legal institutions extend beyond its territorial boundaries. We examine whether US shareholder-initiated class action lawsuits can discipline non-US firms. Using an inte...

摘要:Cultural products-characterized by rich artistic expression and symbolic meaning -are now produced and distributed globally at unprecedented speed. Yet as their reach expands, so too does resistance, as cultural goods become increasingly entangled in geopolitical tensions, cultural sensitivities. This paradox-of easier global access but more contested local acceptance-poses new strategic challenges for multinational enterprises (MNEs) in these industries and presents valuable opportunities for...

摘要:A thriving international cultural industry fuels the expansion of the global creative economy. Yet, what drives the international diffusion and performance of cultural products? This study adopts a social influence perspective to examine the international performance of film exports, addressing a critical gap in existing research that often isolates social influences without considering the impact of their (in)congruence. Given the subjective nature of cultural products and their vulnerability...

摘要:In this study, we examine over 100 years of Rothschild's international activity: we analyze this multinational enterprise's (MNE's) cross-border transfer of family-derived firm-specific advantages (FSAs) and the challenges of recombination thereof with novel resources. Family-derived FSAs hinge on the resources and features of the owning and controlling family. During the period of Rothschild's international success in 19th-century Europe, the family itself served as a recombination mechanism ...

摘要:Numerous studies focus on the tightness-looseness (TL) dimension of national culture, reporting important implications for business and management. However, the main TL measure has generated a number of theoretical and empirical concerns. It likely reflects unfounded national auto-stereotypes, the conceptual boundary between TL and individualism-collectivism (IC) is blurred, respondents in different societies have different TL-related concepts, and TL yields mostly low and often insignificant ...
