摘要:Data from a Fortune 500 retailer suggest that managers tell strategically ambiguous, interwoven narratives about how an organization changes and how it remains the same, thereby attempting to both unfreeze and freeze the existing meanings employees attribute to the organization. 摘要:Cross-business-unit collaboration is central to large firms' value creation, yet empirical support for the prevailing view that a corporate process best fosters such collaboration has been unconvincing. This study of six firms asks how executives create collaborations that perform at high levels. 摘要:Decoupling-the creation of gaps between formal policies and actual practices is ubiquitous in organizations. Yet little research has examined how decoupling unfolds over time. 摘要:Integrating and refining social interdependence theory and structural adaptation theory, we examined the effects of intergroup competition on the creativity of 70 four-person groups engaged in two idea generation tasks. We manipulated both group membership change (change, no change) and intergroup competition level (low, intermediate, high). 摘要:We theorize that engagement, conceptualized as the investment of an individual's complete self into a role, provides a more comprehensive explanation of relationships with performance than do well-known concepts that reflect narrower aspects of the individual's self. 摘要:Extending the differentiation-integration view of organizational design to teams, I propose that self-managing teams engaged in knowledge-intensive work can perform more effectively by combining autonomy and external knowledge to capture the benefits of each while offsetting their risks. 摘要:In this article, we study the conditions under which having ties that span organizational boundaries (bridging ties) are conducive to the generation of innovations. 摘要:We examined whether and how various biases may influence customers' satisfaction evaluations and produce discriminatory judgments for minority and female service employees. We argue that customer satisfaction evaluations are biased because they are anonymous judgments by untrained raters that usually lack an evaluation standard.
