摘要:In this article, we study an energy-regulation tradeoff that delineates the fundamental performance bound of a feedback control system over a noisy channel in an unreliable communication regime. The channel and the process are modeled by an additive white Gaussian noise channel with fading and a partially observable Gauss-Markov process, respectively. Moreover, the feedback control loop is constructed by designing an encoder with a scheduler and a decoder with a controller. The scheduler and t...

摘要:We analyze a tree search problem with an underlying Markov decision process, in which the goal is to identify the best action at the root that achieves the highest cumulative reward. We present a new tree policy that optimally allocates a limited computing budget to maximize a lower bound on the probability of correctly selecting the best action at each node. Compared to widely used upper confidence bound (UCB) tree policies, the new tree policy presents a more balanced approach to manage the ...

摘要:This article investigates state estimation for a class of complex networks, in which the dynamics of each node is subject to Gaussian noise, system uncertainties, and nonlinearities. Based on a regularized least-squares approach, the estimation problem is reformulated as an optimization problem, solving for a solution in a distributed way by utilizing a decoupling technique. Then, based on this solution, a class of estimators is designed to handle the system dynamics and constraints. A novel f...

摘要:This article presents an elementary proof of stochastic stability of a discrete-time reversible Markov chain starting from a Foster-Lyapunov drift condition. Besides its relative simplicity, there are two salient features of the proof. 1) It relies entirely on functional-analytic non-probabilistic arguments. 2) It makes explicit the connection between a Foster-Lyapunov function and Poincare inequality. The proof is used to derive an explicit bound for the spectral gap. An extension to the nonr...

摘要:We study transportation networks controlled by dynamic feedback tolls. We focus on a multiscale model, whereby the dynamics of the traffic flows are intertwined with those of the routing choices. The latter are influenced by the current traffic state of the network as well as by dynamic tolls controlled in feedback by the system planner. We prove that a class of decentralized monotone flow-dependent tolls allows for globally stabilizing the transportation network around a generalized Wardrop e...

摘要:We establish formulas relating the state of a continuous-time system with that of the transformed one in a Takenaka-Malmquist-Kautz orthogonal basis. We use such relation to give a simple proof that if the original system is dissipative, then the transformed one is also dissipative with the same storage function. We apply our results to continuous-time subspace system identification.

摘要:In this article, we consider controllability of discrete-time bilinear systems. A classical sufficient condition was obtained in this journal in 1973, which, unfortunately, is not algebraically verifiable, and the required control inputs to achieve state transition are unknown. However, based on a recently established notion, near-controllability, we propose a seeking nonzero entries approach to derive fully algebraically verifiable controllability criteria for discrete-time bilinear systems. ...

摘要:A method is presented to analyze the stability of feedback systems with neural network controllers. Two stability theorems are given to prove asymptotic stability and to compute an ellipsoidal innerapproximation to the region of attraction (ROA). The first theorem addresses linear time-invariant systems, and merges Lyapunov theory with local (sector) quadratic constraints to bound the nonlinear activation functions in the neural network. The second theorem allows the system to include perturba...

摘要:The optimal linear estimation problem is studied for multirate sampling systems with multiple random measurement time delays (TDs). The considered multirate sampling scheme is that the sensor uniformly samples at a slow rate and the state uniformly updates at a fast rate. Known stochastic variable sequences obeying Bernoulli distributions are adopted to depict random measurement TDs, including missing measurements as a special case. First, using a state iterating method, the original system wi...

摘要:Given a plant whose trajectories of interest remain in a known compact set and an associated observer, we propose a general framework to modify this observer so that its state remains in a given convex set for all times, without altering the observer guaranteed performances in terms of convergence and robustness to external disturbances. The methodology can be applied to any time-varying continuous-time, discrete-time, and hybrid system/observer, for which a quadratic Lyapunov function is used...
