摘要:How does embeddedness-spatial and relational-influence interfirm tie reinitiation when trust is violated? The taken-for-granted relationship between prior ties and repeat tie formation becomes complex when trust violations are introduced. Two divergent schools of thought emerge: an embeddedness as a buffer logic, wherein embedded partners may be more forgiving, versus an et tu Brute logic, wherein embedded partners feel betrayed. We tackle this theoretical tension by examining brokerage relati...

摘要:Individually negotiated customized work arrangements or idiosyncratic deals (i-deals) are an increasingly common practice in contemporary organizations. We propose that these deals are created and implemented in the social context of the workgroup and that one's position in the web of social relationships serves as a strategic advantage or barrier to accessing i-deals. Drawing on the social ledger model, we propose that being central in the trust network is positively associated with i-deals, ...

摘要:We examine how government corruption scandals influence corporate-nonprofit partnerships by altering the institutional context in ways that reshape the value of nonmarket relationships. We analyze these dynamics following Operation Carwash (2014) in Brazil, using comprehensive data on all publicly listed firms and registered nonprofits from 2010 to 2017. We find that partnerships became more common after the scandal's disclosure, as firms and nonprofits sought to collaborate on socioeconomic d...

摘要:Employees voice their concerns in the hope that leaders will change their behavior. But how do employees evaluate these changes? In the present research, we highlight the rate of behavior change as a key factor in determining leader evaluations: Leaders are seen as less authentic when they change rapidly in response to employee voice because people believe that true change takes time. We investigate this claim with three studies that adopt a mixed-method approach (n 5 3,056). In Study 1, PhD s...

摘要:Research has shown that interpersonal helping offers many social benefits for the helper, yet these social benefits depend on the recipients' responses. Whether helping is perceived favorably by recipients depends on the underlying motives they attribute to the helper, which raises the questions of when and how recipients may attribute different motives to helping. To explain when and how those receiving help make these attributions, we adopt a social-functional approach to emotions to examine...

摘要:Through an inductive study of executives reporting persistent loneliness at work, we examine how problematic work experiences can be rooted in the self through narratives, and the process by which they can be uprooted. In the case of loneliness, we found that relational scripts formed the central theme of executives' self-narratives, which informed how they acted and felt at work. Some executives drew on constraining scripts that portrayed self-isolating behavior as necessary for success. This...
