摘要:This paper presents the results from a 2.3-million-person field experiment that varies whether or not a job seeker sees the number of applicants for a job posting on a large job-posting website, LinkedIn. This intervention increases the likelihood that a person will finish an application by 3.5%. Women have a larger increase in their likelihood of finishing an application than men. 摘要:We study triage decisions in emergency departments (EDs) and provide a general procedure for determining when to apply provider triage (PT) based on operational and financial considerations using a steady-state, many-server fluid approximation. 摘要:Motivated by recent empirical evidence, we consider a large service system in which the patience time of each customer depends on his service requirement. Our goal is to study the impact of such dependence on key performance measures, such as expected waiting times and average queue length, as well as on optimal capacity decisions. 摘要:Many jobs are connected to a prosocial mission-namely, to a social purpose beyond profit maximization. I use three laboratory experiments to investigate if employers can use the mission to economize on monetary incentives. 摘要:In this paper, we study systems that allocate different types of scarce resources to heterogeneous allocatees based on predetermined priority rules-the U.S. deceased-donor kidney allocation system or the public housing program. 摘要:Structured finance boomed during the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis. Highly rated, structured securities offered higher yield than other similarly rated bonds because of their concentration of systematic risk, but regulatory capital requirements did not account for this risk. 摘要:Exploiting the heterogeneity in legal constraints on local bank employees' mobility, I show that access to local information influences banks' modes of expansion. As restrictions on interbank labor mobility are relaxed, banks entering a new market establish branches directly instead of acquiring incumbent branches, resulting in a shift of composition of entrants. 摘要:Firms are increasingly giving consumers the vote. Eight studies show that, when firms empower consumers to vote, consumers infer a series of implicit promises-even in the absence of explicit promises. We identify three implicit promises to which consumers react negatively when violated: representation (Experiments 1A-1C), consistency (Experiment 2), and nonsuppression (Experiment 3).
