摘要:We develop three sets of theoretical boundary conditions for the firm-specific advantages (FSA) and country-specific advantages (CSA) view of intellectual property rights (IPR) in international business. These conditions explain when and where MNEs' FSAs accrued from IPR assets (IPR-FSAs) are larger or smaller. In terms of IPR assets' structure, we explicate the conditions creating complementarity problems among MNEs' IPR that make IPR-FSAs larger, and the conditions under which complementarit...

摘要:Goerzen et al. (J Int Bus Stud 44:427-450, 2013) became influential because it generated a broader view of the international business (IB) domain. The paper broke new ground by going beyond the country and regional levels to analyze MNE location choices, a novel approach that revealed the importance of global cities. The original argument suggested that global connectedness, cosmopolitanism, and advanced producer services mitigated the liability of foreignness, thereby highlighting the complex...

摘要:Societal actors increasingly expect multinational enterprises (MNEs) to positively impact the host countries in which they operate. While these expectations have prompted IB scholars to engage more extensively with the societal impacts of foreign direct investment (FDI), our collective knowledge of these impacts is limited. Early IB literature investigated FDI's aggregate impact but generally confined the scope to economic effects. Contemporary, strategy-oriented IB scholarship broadened the s...

摘要:This study investigates types and performance implications of competitive colocation from a network perspective. Drawing on the literature of industrial organization, economic geography, and social network analysis, we introduce a new conceptualization of location choice and colocation as an inter-firm network relationship and advance a theoretical framework on the dimensions of competitive colocations and their implications on firm performance. We maintain that this new approach provides an i...

摘要:We apply the fit theory to develop a multilevel framework of expatriate staffing effectiveness and argue that the advantages of utilizing expatriate managers are more salient in subsidiaries with market-seeking mandates in the host country. This effect is stronger if the parent firm places more emphasis on value appropriation than value creation. Such an impact is further moderated by the economic development of the host country, a country-level facilitating condition affecting the adaptabilit...

摘要:Recognizing the dearth of attention afforded to global cities in the international business and management journals, Goerzen et al. (J Int Bus Stud 44(5):427-450, 2013) chanced their hand at becoming pioneers. Their gamble paid off. Taking geographic scale down to the city level, questioning why multinationals choose to locate subsidiaries inside or outside of global cities, they jump- started their own conversation, sugaring the pill with the IB staple-liability of foreignness. So well was th...
