The author considers all exptl. designs as special cases of 2 fundamental designs, a generalized partially balanced incomplete block design and an intra and intergroup-balanced incomplete block design which is illustrated by an example. A few formulae appropriate to analysis of these 2 types should then serve all exptl. data. When eventually a Dictionary of Designs becomes available experimenters may be able routinely to select the design most appropriate for their purposes.
