摘要:A class of statistical models is derived for the problem of differential diagnosis between several types of disease. The performance of models for differential diagnosis between 3 and 4 types is assessed on clinical data.

摘要:In considering life test experiments from a behavioristic Bayes viewpoint, one may speculate on the effect of model misspecification on the posterior mean under alternative stopping rules. Under the life distribution model, the mean of the posterior is expected to equal the mean of the prior. If the model may be misspecified, this equality is no longer expected. For Bayes estimators of mean life under the exponential model and general priors on mean life, it is expected, based on a preposterio...

摘要:An intraclass rank test of the Spearman type is proposed to test for independence in a bivariate population. The test is useful when there is prior information that the population has the same marginal distributions. The proposed test is asymptotically equivalent to Spearman''s test under the null hypothesis of independence and its contiguous alternatives and is empirically better than that in the case of small sample sizes.

摘要:Some exploratory aspects of simple resistant techniques are described and demonstrated on 3 published sets of data. The examples involve resistant regression, resistant analysis of a 2-way table and resistant analysis of a Latin square experiment, respectively. Emphasis is placed on the application of resistant techniques used in conjunction with, and not as a substitute for, classical statistical analysis. [Data on the repellent effect of lime sulfur on the honeybee are discussed].

摘要:The estimation of a bivariate distribution function with randomly censored data is considered. [Times to death or times to initial contraction of a disease are of interest for litter mate pairs of rats or for twin studies in humans. The time to a deterioration level or the time to reaction of a treatment is of interest in pairs of lungs, kidneys, eyes or ears of humans.] It is assumed that the censoring occurs independently of the lifetimes and that deaths and losses which occur simultaneously...

摘要:Motivated by a problem involving correlation due to genetic relationships within a sample, [the R1R1 relatives of an Rh-null individual (Race and Sanger, 1975) were to be compared with a random sample of unrelated R1R1 blood donors with respect to the levels of certain antigens] the effect of within-sample dependence and between-sample independence on the variance of the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic, given that the marginal distributions are identical in each sample, was investigated. The d...

摘要:A Monte Carlo study is made of conditional and unconditional likelihoods in the analysis of case-control data where the underlying disease incidence is assumed to follow a logistic model. Results indicate that the full likelihood may yield estimates of relative risk that are unacceptably biased upwards for strata with fewer than 20 cases and 20 controls. The simulations support the need for better approximations to the conditional likelihood. With 1 to R matched studies the bias of the full li...

摘要:In the Koziol-Green (1976) model of random censorship the survival distribution of the censoring variables is some power, the censoring parameter, of the survival distribution of the lifetimes. Using a strong approximation result of Burke, Csorgo and Horvath, empirical exact confidence bands were constructed for the life distribution of the censored variable and a randomly Efron-transformed variant of the usual product-limit process is shown to converge weakly to the Brownian motion process on...
