摘要:The estimation of a treatment contrast from experimental data and the estimation of a small-area mean are special cases of the prediction of the realization of a linear combination of fixed and random effects in a possibly unbalanced two-part mixed linear model. In this article a Bayesian approach to point and interval prediction is presented and its computational requirements are examined. Differences between the Bayesian approach and the traditional (classical) approach are discussed in gene...

摘要:Can blocks be tested in a randomized blocks design? It is well known that two different formulations of the linear mixed model yield conflicting answers to this question. This article examines the model formulations from the point of view of statistical relevance. Viewing blocking as a device to increase efficiency leads to a hypothesis concerning blocks that is distinct from the hypothesis of no block main effect. Relevant tests and interval estimates are reviewed. The merits of the two model...

摘要:We investigate the behavior of M estimators of the location parameter for stochastic processes with long-range dependence. The processes considered are Gaussian or one-dimensional transformations of Gaussian processes. It turns out that, up to a constant, all M estimators are asymptotically equivalent to the arithmetic mean. For Gaussian processes this constant is always equal to one, independently of the psi-function. In view of the case of iid observations, the results are surprising. They a...

摘要:In the application of principal components analysis it is common to replace an observed sample principal component vector by another vector closely resembling the sample vector but which is easier to use or interpret. A useful test of hypothesis in this case is one that specifies the true ith principal component. In this article we obtain an asymptotically chi-squared procedure suitable for testing such a hypothesis when the principal components analysis is performed on a correlation matrix. T...
