摘要:We examine the evolution of accounting regulation by linking disclosure policies and investments in a dynamic voting model. The disclosure policies are the outcome of voting by entrepreneurs, whose preferences are influenced by their investments. The investments are in turn endogenously determined by current and future disclosure policies. Absent external influences, accounting regimes are stable. 摘要:I use standard setters' description of comparability to conceptualize two forms of incomparability in financial reporting. Using a laboratory experiment, I construct states of both comparability , incomparability and investigate investors' capital allocation decisions under each. 摘要:There is an ongoing debate over uniformity versus flexibility in accounting regulation. This study examines the financial reporting consequences of a rigid accounting rule in China under which the fiscal year-end is uniform for all companies. 摘要:Using two natural field experiments, we examine how warning individual retail borrowers that their loan performance will be reported to a public credit registry before and after the loan take-up affects their borrowing behavior. We show that credit warnings reduce default rates by 3.7 to 7 percentage points and increase loan take-up rates by 4.1 percentage points, which suggests that credit warnings benefit both lenders and borrowers. 摘要:I study whether there are peer effects in disclosure timing decisions. Using plausibly exogenous variation in the timing of peers' earnings announcements based on a threshold in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting deadline rules, I find that a focal firm responds to a peer's early announcement by announcing its own earnings early. 摘要:Regulatory economics suggests that one benefit of public enforcement is the deterrence of improper conduct. Using a difference-in-differences (DiD) design, we investigate whether a deterrence effect follows the revelation of Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) enforcement.
