London, United Kingdom, 26 June 2026 - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) took part at the London Climate Action Week (LCAW) 2026, with a focus on advancing partnerships and initiatives on climate innovation, green industrialization, including themes such as: industrial decarbonization and cleantech manufacture, finance, digitalization and AI, climate resilience and energy security.
UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller joined Ministers, CEOs and senior leaders from across governments, industry and multilaterals at the Global Energy Transition and Electrification Summit, hosted by the United Kingdom (UK) Government’s Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband. The discussion focused on how enhanced coordination efforts across organizations and concrete actions can accelerate electrification and climate investments.
The Summit also provided an opportunity to further advance UNIDO’s cooperation with the UK Government in support of the energy transition. The voluntary commitments towards the recently launched “35 by 35” initiative was highlighted, which encourages countries to achieve a 35% increase in electrification by 2035.
UNIDO’s engagement at LCAW demonstrated its cross-sectoral reach, bringing together in-depth expertise. On innovation, UNIDO brought its experience to discussions on sustainable supply chains, green industrialization and smart energy systems in the UK’s flagship Ayrton Forum, including the results achieved under five Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility-supported projects.
To advance the green industrialization agenda, UNIDO co-led the Global Green Industrialization Forum with the UK Government and E3G. The forum witnessed the announcement of the Global Green Industrialization Agenda (GGIA), to be launched at COP31, and hosted by UNIDO.
The GGIA is being established to spearhead multilateral collaboration on green industrialization – convening cleantech production, renewable energy deployment and industrial decarbonization – by advancing enabling policy frameworks, facilitating investment-ready pipelines and fostering international cooperation to support green industrial transformation.
Finance was a core part of UNIDO’s focus at LCAW, with the UNIDO Finance Coalition launched in collaboration with the UK Government and CGI. The coalition aims to align private sector and multilateral finance to support the implementation and scaling of bankable innovative climate solutions, including projects developed through UNIDO-managed initiatives, such as the A2D Facility, the Global Alliance on AI for Industry and Manufacturing, and ScaleX.
During the Climate Resilience Finance Summit 2026, UNIDO further shared insights from its growing climate adaptation and resilience portfolio, and contributed expertise to the Global Clean Power Alliance’s finance mission.
In cooperation with the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), UNIDO further held discussions on Low-Emissions Ammonia Fertilizers (LEAF) with a group of member states and international partners. This included UN agencies, financial institutions, industry associations and climate initiatives, fostering ambitions for a Plan to Accelerate Solutions dedicated to LEAF for COP31.
UNIDO’s engagement at LCAW 2026 reaffirmed its commitments in advancing the multi-stakeholder partnerships needed to accelerate sustainable and inclusive industrial development through scalable, investment-ready innovative climate solutions.
