EEA is pleased to announce through its Education Committee, the 5th edition of its teaching prizes to those academic economists who have made a significant contribution to spreading knowledge on economics through their teaching.
The EEA offers five prizes this year:
1. The EEA Award for Exceptional Teaching - This award is offered in three categories.
- Early career (teaching assistants and or PhD Students)
- Junior (non-tenured or equivalent)
- Senior (tenured or equivalent)
Nominations are submitted by academic departments. Each department may nominate one candidate per category. The nomination should include a short report explaining why the candidate deserves the prize. Colleagues may suggest candidates to their department. Self nominations are also welcome, by contacting your department directly to request consideration. Each price is 1,000 euros.
2. The EEA Awards for Innovation in Teaching and Innovation in Teaching with AI
The EEA offers two awards, one for Innovation in Teaching and one for Innovation in Teaching with AI. Each award may go to an individual or a group that has developed an innovative teaching project, including projects still in a pilot phase. The AI award specifically recognises projects that make meaningful use of artificial intelligence. Each prize takes the form of a seed grant of 1,000 euros to support further development. Applications must include a short report from the applicant(s) describing the project, and for the AI award also explaining the role of AI, as well as two letters of support from senior faculty members outlining the project’s contribution. Self-nominations are welcome.
Reapplications
If a candidate was nominated in a previous year but not selected, this may reflect the high number of nominations rather than the quality of the application. Reapplications are strongly encouraged.
Timeline
The award committee of all prizes comprises two members of Education Committee and three EEA Council members. Awards will be decided in early June, and will be handed during the EEA-ESEM annual congress in Dublin in August (https://www.eea-esem-congresses.org/about)
