The United Nations Industrial Development Organization will be at the forefront of discussions at the International Electronic Reuse and Recycling Congress (IERC 2026), the leading event in the Circular Economy Electronics world. The congress gathers professionals from across the value chain, including material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, recyclers, repair and reuse companies, and regulatory authorities, providing a vital platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and advancing sustainable solutions.
UNIDO’s participation in IERC 2026 is key for advancing global dialogue and action on sustainable industrial transformation. As the United Nations specialized agency responsible for promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development, UNIDO brings decades of experience in circular economy innovation, green industry, and e-waste management, positioning the Organization as a strategic partner in shaping the future of electronics reuse, recycling, and resource-efficient industry.
GEM Program Showcase
On 21 and 22 January, UNIDO will showcase the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded Global Electronics Management (GEM) Program, which promotes responsible e-waste management and circular electronics systems across 16 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Implemented by UNIDO’s Circular Economy and Green Industry Division in partnership with the African Development Bank, UNEP, and UNDP, the GEM Program advances access to technology, finance, and sustainable business models, supporting countries in building resilient and resource-efficient electronics value chains.
UNIDO experts will engage in high-level panels, sharing insights and best practices from its long-term experience in:
1. Developing national e-waste management frameworks, circular economy policies, and strategies aligned with global conventions and international standards.
2. Supporting public-private partnerships for electronics collection, reuse, and recycling.
3. Promoting innovation and capacity-building to enable sustainable circular electronics value chains.
Through the GEM Program and other on-the-ground solutions, UNIDO will provide participants with a concrete overview of its expertise and achievements, highlighting the Organization’s people-centered, impact-driven approach to circular industry, green industrial development, and inclusive, climate-resilient growth.
