Nihon Cyber Defence (NCD)

Nihon Cyber Defence (NCD), a Japanese global cybersecurity company, has opened an office in Kyiv, Ukraine. The company focuses on protecting governments, critical national infrastructure and private organizations from cyber threats.

“The opening of the office demonstrates our serious intention to develop cooperation with Ukraine in the field of cybersecurity,” said Cartan McLaughlin, CEO of Nihon Cyber Defence.

The company is currently conducting a feasibility study in Ukraine focused on AI-powered cyber defence, as part of the Green industrial recovery project for Ukraine through technology transfer from and co-creation of new businesses with Japan's private industries.

“This large-scale project facilitates technology transfer from Japan to Ukraine to support industrial recovery based on new technologies, create new employment, and co-create new businesses between Japanese companies and Ukrainian partners. This project exemplifies the synergy created by combining Japanese technologies, UNIDO managerial know-how, Ukrainian partners’ knowledge and infrastructure, with financial support from the Government of Japan and organisational support from Ukrainian authorities. Together, these elements foster the development of an innovation ecosystem,” said Olena Kovalova, Deputy Head of the UNIDO Interim Programme Office in Ukraine.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine H.E. Masashi Nakagome, a UNIDO representative, deputy ministers from three ministries, the Head of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, and leading Ukrainian cybersecurity companies. A memorandum of cooperation was signed between NCD and the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
