World Standards Day

Vienna, 14 October 2025 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) marks World Standards Day with a new video showcasing how standards drive competitiveness, innovation and sustainable economic and industrial growth.

The video features stories and perspectives from Member States which illustrate how UNIDO’s work in standardization empowers industries to compete globally while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNIDO’s initiatives in standards and quality contribute to:

Industrial Growth: facilitating trade and market access by reducing technical barriers, boosting competitiveness and fostering inclusive economic growth.

Inclusive Competitiveness: supporting SMEs and national institutions to meet global standards, enhance skills and ensure product quality and consumer safety.

Sustainable Industry: promoting sustainable production and responsible industrial practices through internationally-aligned standards and conformity assessment.

These efforts have yielded measurable outcomes worldwide - from higher export volumes and reduced border rejection rates to greener business practices, increased investment and consumer trust.

Through its projects and partnerships worldwide, UNIDO builds institutional capacities, strengthens cooperation with international standardization bodies and helps Member States harness the full potential of standards for people, planet and prosperity.
